Fort Bliss Barracks

Fort Bliss Barracks

El Paso, TX

The Situation
Sundt Construction, located in Tempe, Arizona, was awarded the Fort Bliss Infantry Brigade Combat Team Barracks construction project to design and build twenty-four 60 unit buildings in 25 months
or face liquidated damages. The project consisted of 1,440 two-bedroom units and was built to LEED Silver standards with BIM modeling requirements. TDIndustries’ Multifamily team was hired by Sundt to serve as plumbing contractor for the project.

Among the challenges facing TD on this project were:

  • A compressed construction schedule with construction standards adhering to those of the US Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Moving and mobilizing TD’s project managers and superintendents to El Paso, Texas to identify construction support resources for the project in an unfamiliar location.
  • The documentation and reporting requirements for this project were immense.

The Solution
TDIndustries field crew prefabricated the underground plumbing systems to shorten the time required for installation. TD also trained its installers in advance to ensure familiarity and quality control over the prefabrication process. Prefabrication plans were designed by TD’s in-house engineers and showed detailed pipe cuts and assembly instructions for the process. Materials were secured and TD set up a prefabrication system with the pipe and fittings that had been partially assembled and readied for underground installation. Once the plans were complete and the building pads readied, TD aggressively began the installation.
