In December 2009, Deloitte, LLP awarded Turner Construction Company a $130 million contract to serve as the general contractor/construction manager for its new learning and leadership development center. Turner retained TDIndustries as one of its main specialty contractors. Both TD’s Major Projects and Multifamily teams were awarded different parts of the project.

TD’s Multifamily team was awarded a $3.2 million contract to provide plumbing services on the 800 guest rooms located on levels two through five. The project utilized a cast-iron Sovent® sanitary sewer system and the ProPress® copper domestic water system, neither of which is common to the multifamily market.

Project scope divisions between Multifamily and Major Projects provided challenges, such as tying plumbing from the 2nd floor into the 1st and the 5th floor into the attic. Sleeving, coordination, and installation of these split scopes had to be intertwined and was not always easily determined. TD was tasked with presenting seamless coordination, planning and installation of a highly complex project.
