Aviation Facilities Expertise Goes Beyond Maintenance

In the nonstop world of aviation, where operations run around the clock, facilities management teams must meet the highest standards. TDIndustries goes beyond supporting operations by elevating them to a strategic driver of efficiency, safety and reliability.

“Beyond satisfying our customers, we ensure the reliability of key infrastructure and comfort for staff and travelers by maintaining a rigorous and proactive maintenance plan,” says John McKenzie, Director of Facilities Operations at TDIndustries. McKenzie oversees facilities services at a major Texas metropolitan airport.

    Aviation Expertise You Can Trust

Leading aviation hubs across the U.S. trust TDIndustries to manage their mission-critical facilities. Our services to passengers and airlines allow them to get to their destination and operate without interruption. With systems operating 24/7 under tight security and budgetary constraints, the bar is high.

“What really sets airport facilities operations apart,” McKenzie explains, “is a blend of proactive and predictive maintenance, highly trained specialists, and strong relationships—not just with customers, but also with vendors, suppliers and municipal partners.”

    Proactive Maintenance: Challenge Accepted

Facilities services teams should follow a disciplined maintenance schedule designed to identify and address potential issues before they escalate. McKenzie emphasizes cross-training technicians so they’re prepared to see and solve problems outside their standard responsibility as well. “We act as partners to make sure that even if it’s not in our scope, we are at least reporting the situations to the customer to get it fixed,” he says.

For instance, a team spotted a grease leak in a mechanical room. Investigating further, they traced the source to a restaurant grease trap line from the floor above. Although not within their immediate responsibility, they took action to prevent a potentially serious issue from growing worse.

    Predictive Maintenance: Smarter, Safer Operations

Predictive maintenance takes operations to the next level by identifying subtle signs of wear or failure before major issues arise. TD uses tools like thermal imaging and vibration analysis to detect overheating components and machinery fatigue.

Recently, a routine vibration analysis revealed a failing water pump. Replacing it quickly saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential damage and unplanned downtime. By continuously analyzing data from these systems, airports minimize disruptions and maintain consistent, high-performance operations.

Maximizing the Value of Existing Equipment

Facilities services should go beyond just maintaining equipment. McKenzie empowers customers to fully leverage the technology available at their fingertips with the equipment they already have. “Too often, high-performing systems are only utilized at a fraction of their capacity, leaving valuable features untapped,” he says.

With global passenger traffic expected to grow 136% from 2019 to 2030, airports face increasing pressure to do more with fewer resources. Having a trusted facilities partner ensures that existing technology is used to its full potential, helping to extend system life and reduce unnecessary expenses.

    A Partnership That Delivers

Building and maintaining strong relationships are central to TDIndustries’ approach. Collaborating closely with building owners, facilities managers and city officials streamlines communication, fast-tracks parts shipments and enables 24/7 emergency response.

As an employee-owned company with deep roots in the communities we serve, TDIndustries brings full life-cycle support to airport facilities—including engineering, construction and safety expertise. And when needed, TD can scale up quickly, bringing in additional skilled labor from across our service teams to meet the need.

Airports are more than transportation hubs, they’re engines of the global economy. As passenger numbers rise and infrastructure demands grow, TDIndustries remains a steadfast partner, delivering transparency, proactive planning and innovative problem-solving. TD stands as a true partner so that aviation facilities are positioned not just to operate—but to excel.
