Black History Month Spotlight: Interview with Thomas Crowther of The Crowther Group

During Black History Month, TD asked prominent business leaders to share their stories and insights about engaging minority-owned firms as business partners and recruiting diverse talent into the workplace.

TD recently spoke with Thomas Crowther, CEO and managing partner of The Crowther Group, a commercial general contractor specializing in multi-site projects, about his professional journey. Under Crowther’s leadership, The Crowther Group was recognized in by the Dallas-Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council as the Minority Business of the Year for Construction Excellence in 2018 and 2020 and received a Dallas 100 Entrepreneur Award for being one of the 100 fastest growing privately held companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  

During the discussion, Crowther shared wisdom and insight about his successes and stressed the importance of increasing diversity within the construction industry by maintaining a core focus on servant leadership. When asked to provide tips to businesses seeking promote diversity, Crowther answered, “Once you are committed to service, the hard work of recruiting, attracting, developing and partnering with minority companies becomes easy...because your core focus is to serve.” Crowther emphasized that The Crowther Group also has a philosophy of, “serving others above ourselves and serving our community.”

Over the course of his career, Crowther has held a variety of leadership roles with prominent construction firms, from project manager to vice president. Crowther is an alumnus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he studied construction management.
