TDIndustries Takes “The CEO Pledge” to Promote Physical Activity

Dallas, TX, September 24, 2013 – TDIndustries, a leading mechanical construction and facility services company, announced today that the firm has signed “The CEO Pledge™,” a leadership campaign sponsored by the National Coalition of Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA).  The campaign aims to promote physical activity as an important driver of employee health and wellness, impacting overall business performance.

According to the NCPPA, CEOs who sign The CEO Pledge™ agree to implement at least six strategies to create and promote a culture of physical activity in their workplace.  A mix of strategies from three categories -- behavioral support, educational support and environmental or policy support – are key factors in achieving maximum cultural impact.

“On behalf of our TDParters, it is an honor to sign The CEO Pledge™,” says Harold MacDowell, CEO of TDIndustries.  We consider our health and wellness programs important initiatives, right up there with our safety programs.  We are pleased to participate in raising national awareness of the benefits of a healthy workplace.”

TDIndustries offers numerous wellness and physical activity programs that match more than the NCPPA’s minimum criteria including but not limited to:

  • Offering a third-party administered wellness program to all TDPartners and their spouses.  This program provides incentives for wellness outcomes, such as weight loss and smoking cessation, as well as medical premium discounts up to $520 per year for meeting wellness objectives;
  • Providing expense reimbursements for half the cost of personal fitness tools;
  • Encouraging manufacturing and construction workers to perform stretching exercises before beginning a shift and encouraging corporate employees to take brief activity breaks throughout the workday;
  • Subsidizing  membership fees to fitness facilities through the wellness program;
  • Creating an indoor walking trail in the corporate office using “footprint” prompts to encourage the use of the stairs, rather than the elevator.  TD's Dallas office also provides a secure outdoor walking trail for employee use at any time; and
  • Hosting annual health fairs that include biometric screenings and free flu shots.

Says MacDowell, “Our TDPartners understand the connection between the benefits of having healthy workers and a healthy corporate bottom-line.  As an employee-owned company, it is also very rewarding to see the results of increased productivity, improved morale and reduced healthcare expenses related to our wellness program. We all benefit from these improvements.”
