The Costs of Liability: How Poor Maintenance Could Land You in Major Trouble

Accidents happen, sometimes through the carelessness of facility occupants, but also through negligence by a facility owner or employer (they might be one in the same). When a facility owner, manager, or employer is at fault, this is likely a result of a failure to maintain safe and healthy conditions within the facility. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), an inability to keep a workplace free from hazards can lead to harsh financial penalties in the form of citations or other legal action.

Here's What Happens When You Don't Maintain Your Commercial Electrical Systems

While there are obvious issues associated with HVAC or refrigeration (CRFES) equipment failures, a facility’s electrical and lighting system is the center of everything. So, of course, if your facility’s electrical system succumbs to a breakdown, all electricity-dependent equipment is affected. This risks bringing essential day-to-day facility operations to a screeching halt.

How an Energy Audit Works (And Why You Need One)

So What’s the Big Deal?

Every year, new equipment and facility development best practices are updated for more efficient energy usage. Still, it can be difficult for facility management to keep up with every stream or source of energy, when/how those streams are used, and how efficient each of those streams is relative to other facilities. Even if you’re diligent about replacing your equipment on time, you still might be missing out on energy saving opportunities you didn’t see before.

Best Practices for Commercial Planned Maintenance

Reliability Centered Maintenance and Planned Maintenance: So What’s the Big Deal?

While the idea of planned maintenance service isn’t too complex in itself, the value gets lost when most facility maintenance issues aren’t detected by occupants until it’s too late. If the aesthetics of a building aren’t affected and everything seems to be working fine, it’s harder to commit to a program that: (a) addresses issues based on the likelihood of something going wrong, and (b) involves a program that can’t guarantee that emergency services won’t be needed at any future point.
